ROBERT MORGAN VANCE Obituary
Robert Morgan Vance of Matteson passed away suddenly at his home on May 28th. A longtime resident of the area, Bob was a graduate of Kenyon College, and received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Western Reserve University in 1949. He worked for Sherwin Williams from 1948 until his retirement in 1983. An active volunteer, he was a charter member of Faith U.P. Church in Park Forest, serving on its Board of Directors, and chaired the Matteson Library Board during construction of the new building. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward D. and Edythe Vance, his brother, Edward D. Vance Jr., his first wife, Elizabeth Glassco Vance, his second wife Elizabeth Tatum Dunn Vance, and his beloved companion Florence Oliver. Bob is survived by his children and their spouses, Stephen (Lisa), Joan, Timothy (Lorinda), and stepdaughters Susan Dunn Sherk (Wilfred), and Carolyn Dunn Roberts (John), nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as his sister, Catherine Vance Fiala (William). A memorial service will be held at Faith United Protestant Church in Park Forest, IL, on Saturday, June 5th, with a gathering at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m., followed by a reception in the Church hall. Cremation and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the , the Salvation Army, or Faith United Protestant Church.
