Hoyt III, Nelson Landon
Nelson Landon Hoyt III "Linger", 85, died peacefully on August 8, 2010 at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL surrounded by family members. Linger fought a courageous battle with dignity. Linger was born in Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL on January 9, 1925 to Catherine Lillias Orde "Donna" and Nelson Landon Hoyt Jr. "Gar". He was the youngest of three children and is survived by his oldest sister Blanche Hoyt Gordon of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his other sister Margaret Hoyt Bacon "Peggy". Linger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Jean McAdams "Bobby". He is also survived by his five children, twelve grand children and one great grand child. His five children are Nelson Landon Hoyt IV of Spring Grove, IL, William Henry Hoyt of Greeley, CO, Carolyn McAdams Westfall of Wheat Ridge, CO, Phelps Beresford Hoyt of Des Moines, IA and Stephen Dubbs Hoyt of Glastonbury, CT. Linger graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL in 1943. He served in the military from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Coast Guard as Fireman First Class on the U.S.S. Pride. He was educated at the University of Illinois from 1946 to 1948. He worked as a salesman at Lustron Corporation from 1949 to 1950 and at Bemis Corporation from 1951 to 1972. He also worked as a real estate developer in Crystal Lake, IL from 1973 to 1988. He enjoyed the hobbies of golf and duck hunting. He was a proud member of Indian Hill Country Club in Winnetka, IL, The Country Club of Florida in Golf, FL, The Ocean Club in Ocean Ridge, FL and The Little Club in Gulf Stream, FL. Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 14 at the Winnetka Congregational Church, 725 Pine Street, Winnetka, IL 60093 at 12:30 p.m. preceded by visitation at noon. Burial will follow the funeral services at Graceland Cemetery, 4001 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Arrangements by Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 847-251-8200.
