Jerry Sachs was my first cousin on my father's side. His mother was an older sister to my dad. The two familes lived on the northside of Chicago and two lived on the southside. We all got together several times a year. This occurred during WWII and through the 1950s.

Please accept our condolences on the passing of such a wonderful man, Dr. Jerome Sachs! We were students at Northeastern and had the honor of working with him and observing the kindness he showed to all he met. The world is a better place because of President Jerome Sachs. May he rest in peace. Sincerely, Jim and Linda Pappas

Jerry was my father's good friend (his best man at Jerry's first wedding), his enlistment comrade, his colleague in administration at NEIU, and a fixture in my life growing up. My sister and I are saddened by the news, but know it was a life well-lived. My condolences to the Sachs family.

I will miss you, Uncle Jerry. You've been a most caring, loving, generous uncle to me and my family. You know how much Mark loved, respected, and looked up to you. I know you felt the same about him. Enjoy all the corned beef sandwiches you want.
Your loving niece,
Fanchon

Dr. Sachs was my professor at CTC a million years ago. I was a lone female in an advanced math class and Dr. Sachs took my future very seriously. I dearly wanted to go to U of I but he was totally committed to my continuing at U of C. When I told him money was an issue, he brought me all the information - lots of it - for scholarships at U of C, helped me find my way through the formalities and held my hand every step of the way. When I was awarded a full scholarship I do believe he was more excited than I. I went on to a career in math, loved the field and never forgot him. At one point I did contact him and tell him how improtant he was to me. Of course, he downplayed his role and insisted it was my doing. He was a truly remarkable man both as a mathematician and a human being. I never forgot him, I never will. He made me the caring teacher I became, holding my students to high standards but treating them as young, vulnerable human, caring people. From Dr. Sachs I leaned everything that made me a good math teacher and a caring person. What a gift to have had him in my life. I am now 84 and he is still in my life. Gerry Macsai
