Obituary Condolences

Elaine Boanshick, formerly of Burbank, IL, passed away on Monday, November 19, at her home in Rhinelander, WI. Affectionately known as "the Hat Lady" for the large collection of unique and colorful hats she wore to church each Sunday, Elaine had resided in Rhinelander for the past 21 years after retiring from a 32-year career at Continental Illinois National Bank. Elaine was born on May 25, 1938, in Chicago, the daughter of Irene and George Boanshick. She graduated 25th in a class of 359 from Tuley High School in Chicago. Among her many passions were ballet, ballroom dancing, figure skating, and various other winter sports which she pursued in the Northwoods. For many years, Elaine also worked tirelessly as a volunteer on behalf of Chicago-area children, including 10 years at St. Vincent's Home for Infants and 17 years at Misericordia Home for Handicapped Children. For these and other volunteer activities, she was awarded the Chicagoland 100 Award in 1971 for meritorious service to the Chicagoland community. After moving to Rhinelander, she was employed by the USDA Forest Service as Office Administrator at the Forestry Sciences Lab, from which she retired after 7 years of service. From 1992 to 2012, she had served as Director and Match Coordinator for Kinship for the North, Inc, a youth mentoring program in Rhinelander. She leaves behind six devoted nephews and their spouses, 10 great nieces and nephews, 4 great-great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, George Boanshick, mother, Irene Boanshick, brother, Michael Clancy, sister, Bette Plewa, and sister-in-law, Susan Clancy.
