Obituary Condolences

Alexander Vyeherenko Lyssenko, 78 years old of Berwyn, IL passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Heartland Rehabilitation Center in Three Rivers, MI. He was born on September 4, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Mary Dikun and Father, Clement Lyssenko. Alexander was a devoted brother to Daniel (Linda) Dikun of Aiken, SC and loving father to Alexander of Columbia, IL, Taras of Cassapolis, MI, and Scott of Berwyn, IL. Alexander graduated from Morton College in Cicero, IL in 1955 and from the University of Illinois at Champagne-Urbana in 1957. He served in the US Army with the Mortar Battery of the 1st Brigade, 60th Infantry at Camp Carson in Colorado from 1958 until 1959. In 1960, he began his career as a Chicago Public School Teacher. He taught at numerous elementary and high schools until his retirement in 1989. Following that, he began another career as a Deputy Sheriff for Cook County until his retirement in 2009. Alexander spent many weeks each summer in Mattawa, Canada, where he enjoyed fishing and canoeing, along with his many friends. Other hobbies included woodworking, history, and hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved the many pets he had over the years. At the request of Alexander, the family will be having a private service.
