Barton Lamb

Obituary Condolences

Barton M. Lamb died at home Thursday, February 28, 2013 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Born in Chicago on July 27, 1948, he was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a BS in Communications. He was an award-winning promotion and program manager for several television and radio stations, but his promising career was cut short when he was diagnosed with acute Crohn's disease. Though he suffered from the disease for the rest of his life, he went on to work in a variety of occupations until he was forced to retire due to ALS. A life-long Cubs fan, he was a master of trivia, a guitar and folk music enthusiast, and a passionate student of American and Roman history. A loving husband and father, he is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 44 years Karen (nee Hackenson), son Ian (Richelle Amundson), daughter Katharine, father-in-law Richard Hackenson, sister-in-law Barbara Hackenson, nephew William Jacks II, niece LeeAnn Ingram, aunt Maryjane Lionberg, dear friend Nancy Cowdin, and several cousins. Preceeded in death by his father (Malcolm) Barton Lamb, mother Mildred (nee Lionberg), aunts Gladys Lionberg and Alice Floeckher, and uncles William and Robert (Helen) Lionberg. His family will hold a private celebration of life. Donations to the ALS Association or Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America are appreciated.
