IRENE A. ORPHAN Obituary
Irene A. Orphan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and friend, passed away on March 8, 2013 after a sudden illness during a stay in Naples, FL. Born on December 14, 1938, she was a lifelong resident of the Beverley Hills neighborhood of Chicago. In addition to James G. Orphan, her husband of 54 years, she is survived by her daughters, Pamala (Tom) Kiriakos, Lake Forest, IL, and Nicole Orphan, Chicago, her granddaughters, Arianna, Christina, and Alyssa Kiriakos, her sister Thalia (Ted) Lake, Naples, FL, her brother Dino (Bonnie) Selimos, Grays Lake, IL, her sister-in-law, Mary Orphan, Chicago, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great nephews, and Koumbari. Preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Helen Selimos, among the founding members of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church now in Oak Lawn, IL, she honored their legacy of compassion, generosity, love of family, and pride in their Hellenic heritage, and sought, together with her husband, to instill those values in her own children. Her granddaughters, the joys of her life, irreplaceably have lost their adored, wonderful, and loving "Nonie." Irene's many loved ones and friends will remember her warmth and thoughtfulness, her eternally optimistic and outgoing personality, her knack for spontaneous fun, her sense of style and entertaining, her gardening and her generosity, and her love of laughter and song. Visitation Monday 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Blake Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, IL. Trisiagion 7:00 p.m. Family and friends will meet Tuesday morning at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 10301 South Kolmar Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL for a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Internment Evergreen Cemetery.
