William Miller

William Bricen Miller, passed away March 17 at Midwest Hospice Center in Glenview, surrounded by his family. Bill was born to William Bricen and Melva Sallee (English) Miller in 1921. He graduated from Northwestern University, Harvard Business School (USAF) and Harvard Law School (JD). Bill served 4 years in the Army Air Transport Command in the Far East during WWII. He met his wife, Mary Elizabeth Tallant, at Northwestern University and was married in 1947. Evanston became their home for the rest of their lives. Bill was a partner at Lord Bissell and Brook Law Firm, and then devoted his career to international business consulting. His many public service activities included U.S. Representative at the United Nations Conference on Water in Argentina, Illinois Export Advisory Committee, Midwest Committee for UNICEF (founding director), and Midwest Entrepreneurs Forum. He was a founding member of International Business-Government Counsellors, Inc. in Washington, DC, One Design Yachtsman Magazine, and National Wine Distributors Association. He was also involved with countless interests including memberships in Independent Writers of Chicago, Society of Wine Educators, The Caxton Club and The Literary Club. He was a member of the Alumni Board of Regents at Northwestern University. Bill is survived by his daughters, Laura (Dave) Bala of Cleveland, Elizabeth (Tom) Leonard of Winnetka; son John Miller of Winnetka; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Laura, Maggie, Jonathan and Eliza; great-grandchildren Brody and Delaney; brother, R. Duke Miller of Columbus, Georgia and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lib Miller (Tallant), and his sisters Barbarita Holzhacker and Elizabeth Payne. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 10:00am at Winnetka Congregational Church, 725 Pine Street, Winnetka, IL 60093.
