Catherine Meyer Obituary
Catherine Leinen Meyer died peacefully in her home at Montgomery Place, June 13, 2013. She was 90 years old. A lifelong learner and pianist, she taught grade school children in the Chicago Public Schools, hearing-impaired students at York (Elmhurst) and Hinsdale South High Schools, and gave piano lessons for over 60 years. Having turned down a college opportunity to help support her family, she later earned a scholarship to the University of Chicago where she met Bob, her husband of 63 years. Together they worked in church and community activities, and travelled widely for many years. She will be remembered for her courage in the face of difficulties, her devout faith, and her commitment to enriching the life of people with special needs, including her daughter Mary Elizabeth. Preceded in death by Bob, her brother Arthur Leinen and sister Loretta Farrell, she is survived by daughters Cathy (Dan Luchins) and Mary Elizabeth, and grandson Matthew Luchins. In addition to her immediate family she leaves behind many other relatives including 30 nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A mass and memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, July 27, 12 noon, at Montgomery Place, 5550 South Shore Drive. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Elizabeth's home, the Alvin Eades Residence, 905 Superior, Jacksonville, IL 62650. For inquiries: cmemeyer@gmail.com
