J. Robert (Rob) Effinger Obituary
J. Robert (Rob) Effinger, 79, Chicago, peacefully on 12/19 after a short illness, surrounded by family. Born in Chicago 8/21/34, loving son of John Effinger and Ruth Walser Effinger, brother of Margaret Effinger Hayes. Graduated from Hinsdale (IL) Central High School, where he met his wife, Katherine (Kathy) Luhn Effinger. Very, very proud graduate of the University of Michigan (as were his grandparents, parents, wife, all four daughters, and oldest grandchild). M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. Held executive positions in the banking industry in Chicago and New York City for many years. Later founded a successful church software company, Omega C.G. Limited, the innovator and leader in its sector, serving 2500+ churches before merging with a competitor in 1996. Upon retirement, mentored many young businesswomen and men, served on the board of GoodCity, and (with his wife, Kathy) volunteered as an advocate for foster children with CASA of DuPage County. Married to his beloved "queen," Kathy, for 56 years and the loving father of four "princesses": Mary Kay (Mark) Baker of Saugatuck, MI and Chicago, Linda (Herb) Quinde of Chicago, Margaret Shiner of San Francisco, and Susan (Dev) Butler of East Grand Rapids. Also the devoted and much-loved "Bumpa" of Stephanie (Jonathan) Zita, Caroline Baker, Matt Baker, Liamarie Quinde, Robert Butler, William Butler, Myatt Butler, and Sydney Shiner. Rob and Kathy made their home in the Hinsdale, IL area for many years until moving near Millenium Park in downtown Chicago in 2012. Spent every summer of his life at the family cottage ("Some Place") in Saugatuck, which he loved more than anywhere else on earth and where he will be greatly missed. Celebration of life will be held on Monday, December 23 at 11:00 am at Christ Church of Oak Brook, 31st Street and York Road in Oak Brook. Reception following at the Hinsdale Golf Club, 140 West Chicago Avenue, Clarendon Hills.
