Gary McCarter Obituary
Gary McCarter, age 77, of Huntley passed away February 27th surrounded by family. Born December 1, 1936 in rural southern Indiana to Lois and Floyd McCarter, Gary graduated from Patricksburg HS and later Indiana State with an Accounting degree. Gary married Donna Jean Evans in June 1956. Last year, they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. With great pride, Gary and Donna raised 5 children -- Scott (Shelly), Bill (Michelle), Sam (Carolyn), Laura (Adam Lund), and Leslie (TJ McClure) -- and enjoyed 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Gary was also proud of his distinguished career with Farmer's Insurance Group and his many friends there. His career took Gary and family across the U.S., introducing them to new adventures and friends. Gary loved meeting new friends and maintaining contact with his old ones - often playing golf, tennis, and ping-pong. He also loved riding his bike on adventures both planned and un-planned. Gary took great pride in providing for his family and others. For this reason, a college scholarship has been established in his name for students from rural Indiana. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the Gary McCarter Scholarship Fund at the Owen County Community Foundation (OCCF) or to Alzheimer's research. Scholarship contributions can be made online at www.owencountycf.org or by mail to OCCF, P.O. Box 503, Spencer, IN 47460. Research contributions can be made at alz.org. Gary's family would like to thank the staff at Arden Courts of Geneva for their love and care for Gary during his stay. A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held in early May.
