When Nathan´s notice popped up in my mailbox today, I was once more reminded how fragile life is. Sue, Bob and Lauren, you are in my thoughts today as I say a prayer for Nathan. My heart is broken for you and I hope that you are doing as well as can be expected. Seven years is not a long time when it comes to such a bright light that Nathan was being gone.
Love,
Teri

For me, with Nathan and his family there were a lot of good Scouting memories. Good memories can never be forgotten. He and his family will forever be in my heart.

Nate, it's your Auntie Jean. I am so sorry that I had to get to know you through these other heart-broken people. What an amazing guy you turned out to be! I am so sorry that, like your Auntie Lisa, I never knew you as the amazing man being described here by people all around the world. I know you are OK now, and at peace.

I had recently worked with Nathan in Korea: He was a terrific fellow teacher who always helped keep the experience light-hearted--a breath of fresh air from the consequential culture shock which, at times, accompanies a journey like teaching in Asia.
Family and friends have my deepest condolences.

Nate was a student of mine, and I am deeply saddened by the news of his death. My condolences go out to his family and many friends.

He was my best friend and definitely the greatest person I've ever met in my entire life. We had made so many memories together till he went back to the States after one year in Korea. He was incredibly brilliant, warm-hearted and considerate. Now...I'm in a state of shock and still can't believe it...cannot understand why this tragedy happened to you.....and won't forever.. I only want it to ba a horrible but vanishing as if by magic nightmare... I miss you so bad at this moment...from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate everything you shared with me and...I will keep you in my thoughts forever... I hope you rest in peace..

I met Nathan in South Korea. He was great, he showed me his favorite movie "The American Astronaut". He made me laugh, and was amazingly smart. He couldn't wait to get home and see everyone again, go hiking and eat some proper Mexican food. I'm terribly sorry for your loss. And also incredibly sad that I won't be able to see him again.

Whenever I spent time with Nate, I laughed, embraced different music, different tastes in general and had discussion about a variety of things. I can't think of one instance where I didn't have a great time and I mean it when I say that if I tried, I couldn't think of a better guy.

I didn't know Nathan well, but I saw him at poetry events from time to time and we would talk. Every interaction I had with him was kind, funny, and imaginative. I'm comforted because his art was appreciated and he was deeply loved by his friends, family, and poetry community. He will be missed.

I knew Nathan more as a child than as a young man. He was funny, creative, loving, sweet, and oh so close to his mother, father and sister. We will miss him. I wish we had that chance to get to know him better. My kids, his cousins, have missed that chance as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today and always. Love Aunt Lisa, Carson, Jessie and Kelsey

Nate was an outstanding student in my 2 favorite and most difficult classes at IWU: Avant-Garde Fiction and James Joyce. But more than that, he was an outstanding person: with a warm sense of humor about himself and about his work with me, which he clearly loved; with a generosity of spirit and a deep and abiding kindness; with a wry smile and a tilt of the head as he stood in the doorway of my office, as he so often did, just hanging out or recommending a book to me. We kept in touch after he graduated, which doesn't happen with most students. Nate sent me links to Stephen Colbert reading _Ulysses_ and regaled me with stories about one of his jobs in particular when he visited campus. That is to say, we were friends, and I treasure that.
Those of us who knew Nate are so much the better for his having been a part of our lives. I send my most sincere condolences to his family. Words really do fail.

Nate was one of my favorite German students. He loved Dada poetry and created and performed some memorable pieces for the class. He loved Brecht, Lang's M, post-modernism. Not many students are able to embrace all of those varied traditions with as much enthusiasm as he did. My condolences/Mein herzlichstes Beileid.
