William Barrows Obituary

William Harris Barrows, M.D., 60, died May 26, 2014 at home after battling brain cancer for more than 2-1/2 years. Beloved husband of Donna (nee Epstein); loving father of Sam, Charlie and Ted; dear brother of Mary Ann (David) Wark, Robert (Linda) Barrows and Patricia (Thomas) Rosbrow; devoted son of the late Sidney and the late June Harris Barrows; cherished son-in-law of Sidney and Sondra Epstein; enthusiastic brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Bill was a pediatrician for thirty years and a mentor to young physicians. He was fond of saying that nothing you do for a child is wasted or forgotten. He volunteered for 25 years at a free clinic. He was also a mohel who brought 1000 babies into the Jewish tradition. He was an avid skier, runner, gardener and photographer who documented the special moments in the lives of all his family and friends. He will be missed by so many. Services on Friday, May 30, 2014, 10:00 a.m. at Chicago Sinai Congregation, 15 W. Delaware Place, burial private. Memorials to Chicago Sinai Congregation or Rush University Medical Center, 1700 W. Van Buren St., Suite 250, Chicago, IL 60612, for either the Department of Pediatrics or Neuro-oncology Research would be appreciated. Bill Barrows was a wonderful
doctor. First as my own pediatrician and then the pediatrician of my now grown children. Dr. Barrows leaves a tremendous void in compassionate medicine. He is greatly missed.

I am just now seeing this and am so very very sorry to hear that the wonderful, funny, caring Dr Barrows has left us. He was a new doctor and we were new parents and he was a great doctor and person for our David and Sam. Our belated but deeply felt sympathy.

Our deepest sympathy's, even 2 years later it must still be very hard. Dr. Barrows was our pediatrician 24 years ago. I found an old business card and decided to "google" him. He was such a great man. I will always remember how proud/happy he was to be skiing with his father and sons on challenging terrain. I think he had a photo in his office. We are very sorry for your loss and like many will always remember him. Truly a great man.

I knew Bill during my two years as Education Director at Sinai twenty years ago. He was the perfect congregant, parent , husband and doctor. Occasionally a child would become I'll while attending class, and we knew we coukd pull Bill out of services for some much needed TLC. He was so good to his patients and so good to the world! Zichrono l'vrachah -- his memory is a blessing to is all.
