Judge Duane Gerald Walter will be missed dearly by his wife, Beverly (nee Wise), children Gary (Katie) Walter, Linda (Jim) Rinella, Dawn (Paul) VanLaanen, Donna (Dave) Jansen, Bruce Walter, Lori Vanagunas, Lisa (Kirk) Schmitt, Dr. Kevin (Katie) Walter, Bob (Amy) Miller, sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Duane was born on January 8, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa; moved to Chicago and graduated from Lake View High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and then obtained a law degree from Chicago - Kent College of Law in 1954. He had a distinguished career as an attorney before being appointed Associate Judge of the DuPage County 18th Judicial Circuit Court. After retiring, Duane owned The Old Town Wedding Chapel in Bloomingdale, Illinois, for 16 years. Duane was an active member of the DuPage County Bar Association, the Illinois State Board Association and the DuPage County Republican Committee. Duane is preceded in death by parents Gerald and May (nee Peppmeier) Walter, former wife Lois Belle Gibbs, and sister and brother in law, Glenys and Joe Dombrowski. Visitation will be Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. at Salerno's Rosedale Chapel, 450 W. Lake St. Roselle, Il. 60172 (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Rd.). with a Celebration of Life ceremony at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund or the Navigators. I'm so sorry to learn of the Judges' passing, he and I made a good team in small claims court. I found him to be a very generous, wise and caring individual. Truly, the world has lost a good man. Thanks Duane for the memories!! Your clerk "the great one!"

I first met Judge Walters over 35 years ago, when he held traffic court at the DuPage County Administration building. He was compassionate and listened to people when he administered justice. He was well liked by everyone who came in contact with him and he will be dearly missed. My condolences to his family.

Talk about living a full life! Duane you will be missed. And, Beverly, my condolences for the loss of your best friend. There is such peace in knowing that every time Duane's name is mentioned smiles fill the room and people are rushing to retell a wonderful story of this gentleman. I testified many times in front of Judge Walter over the years as a police officer in Du Page County. Duane was a very fair man and believed in expediting traffic court but not at the expense of the defendants. He had a great sense of humor both on and off the bench and he will be missed. I send my deepest condolences to his family.
