I met Mike when I was 5 and Mike was 6,our fathers grew up together in Austin. He was like a big brother and I missed him when the family moved to Oak Park during grammar school and the went into the seminary. His sister Mary was my first date in HS ,her mom drove us to the zTrinity dance. We went out to eat at the esquire afterwards,Mrs. Norris waiting in the car in the freezing cold. After I gulped down my food and malt,Mary Jo politely asked if I wanted her uneaten half blt, which I didn´t hesitate to consume.Insaw Mike play at my Alma Mater Notre Dame ,in the old field house in 67,I think DePaul won handily.I played with Mike a couple years later at the Columbus park field house and he had recently married and had a new ford, telling me one of the highlights of married life was when his bride cooked a huge quantity of ribs and he could eat all he wanted. We both came from big Irish Catholic families so I could definitely relate.I also became a trial lawyer and moved to SpringGreen WI in 1980,so I didn´t see him until I stopped in his office on my way to O hare in 2010.Mike was dressed like an Expensive lawyer and his office was immaculate. He said that was so prospective clients would Know he wouldn´t be cheap. As I perused his many awards and news clippings he said he was proudest of DePaul honors.I didn´t hear of his death until a couple years ago and regret missing his funeral.

We just found out of Mike,s passing. My husband knew him for thirty years and I for over twenty. He helped my husband through a few cases and help handle my malpractice suit. You could always call Mike or stop in and he would have time for you. We haven,t spoke in a little while and we will miss his wit. When he walked into a court room you knew it would be okay. I can,t begin to say how much he will be missed. Jim and I will always remember him with a smile. I just referred him a week ago. Michael must be laughing knowing we are always behind. We shared the same birthday and this May I willlight an extra candle. He loved to tell stories about his daughter and grandchildren. We have so many memories that come to mine as I write this. Even though we never met Mrs. Norris, your husband helped my husband out a lot and he considered him a good friend. When I lost use of my arm and hand he was the first person we called. We know he held you in high regard. The world just won,t seem as bright. Please except our deepest condolences for you and your family. James Topham and Denise Rosbear

Barb and Family: I just found out today about Mike's passing. I was a classmate of his at St. Henry's Seminary in Belleville, Il. during his highschool years. Though my time with him was short I grew to like him as a good friend and superb basketball player. What a great shooter; he could not only drill those long-range shots but could drive to the hoop as well as anyone. From reading the other condolences he obviously took his energy to be great from the basketball court to the courts of law. Our class tried to contact him for our reunions and regretfully we did not get to see him. Be assured of my prayers for you and your family.

It will be 50 years ago on March 18th that Mike and I met at the
Roma on the DePaul Campus. It was love at first sight. I knew
then that he was uniquely special and to hear all of your comments
at the memorial service and here on line, just reaffirmed the "greatness" that was Mike. Past students he taught at Fenwick, basketball players he coached, his colleagues and friends from the State's Attorney's Office and in his private practice and of course his beloved friends -- all had the same kinds of comments. He was extraordinary, not only in his ability to be outstanding at whatever he did, but more importantly his loving heart, his goodness, his integrity and his sense of humor. I was the luckiest girl in the world because I knew that this great man with that great heart belonged only to me. We had the most beautiful, full life for 48 years with Robin. John, Michael , Meredith and Matthew. He is the love of my life. He is stardust. He is Golden.

Mike was a coach when I was a student at Fenwick. He always had an encouraging word for team members. He had a gentle spirit about him that was readily apparent to all those whose lives he touched. I am saddened by his passing. He will be missed.

In the Spring of 1967 Donnie May led the Dayton Flyers to the NCAA Championship game where Dayton lost to UCLA and Lew Alcindor. That year, Dayton's last regular season game was at DePaul at Alumni Hall. It was Mike's last DePaul game ( and televised locally ). Mike led DePaul to a win against a heavily favored Dayton. It arguably still may be the biggest win in DePaul history. I met Ray Meyer in 1988 and I mentioned Mike and that game. Ray smiled and said " I just gave Mike the ball". My condolences on your loss. I wish I was able to pay my respects in person.

Dear Mrs. Norris, John and Robin,
I am sorry to read of Mike's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Mike on many cases. I first tried a case against Mike about 20 years ago when I was a Lake County prosecutor and then we referred cases to each other in our respective counties when I went into private practice. I enjoyed working with Mike so much because he was so insightful about people, something he used well as an attorney. I also know he cherished his family and frequently talked of his time as a grandfather. You have my sympathies. Jim Simonian

Barb, it has been difficult processing the news of Mike's death. My family was deeply and doubly blessed by his presence in our lives. Not only did Mike help my children through some difficult legal issues when they were younger, but he remained a good friend to all of us through so many years. He was surely a part of their becoming responsible parents and good citizens! To the end, Melanie saw him frequently in the Clerk's Office at the Rolling Meadows courthouse. She often told me of the good conversations that she and Mike had and kept me updated on his illness. I remember with such fondness our good times as young married couples. I find myself remembering particularly that trip to New Orleans many years ago and what fun we all had! I will miss knowing that Mike is always there to help without hesitation, and I will think of you and your family often.

Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Barb , Robin & John. It was my honor and privilege to work with Mike for over ten years. He was one of the finest if not the best criminal defense lawyer I'v ever had the pleasure of working for. A man of great common sense, commitment, and integrity, he always put his client's interest above his own. He had the work ethic of an Army and he was as demanding of himself as he was his employee's and colleagues. He was totally committed to his family and especially his grandchildren whom he seemingly took to Disney world about thirty times a year. In addition Mike dressed better then most fashion models. (I do wish I could raid his closet) I will miss his friendship, his spirit and most of all him. The world is just a little less fun to be on today. Goodbye old friend.

My sincere condolences to the Norris Family. Mike was such a great guy. I was lucky enough to watch him play at DePaul, and have him as an English teacher at Fenwick. I always enjoyed his dry sense of humor. Years later, I bumped into him at St. Mary, in Buffalo Grove, and we must have talked for half an hour. He had a way of making you feel special. We all will miss you, Mike, until we meet again!
