Stephen Bunting Obituary

Stephen Bunting, 59, passed away peacefully at Hinsdale Hospital on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 with his family at his side. He was a loving husband to Susan and an adoring, proud father to Rachel, 22, and Ian, 19. Those that knew Stephen deeply felt his unique spirit. He was quick with a joke and always able to put a smile on everyone's face. He could become best friends with a stranger in a matter of minutes. That's just his contagious nature. For a small town guy from Pittsfield, IL, he had so many friends all across the world. His travels were a great inspiration for the way he lived his life- with zest, curiosity and great vigor. He will be forever missed. Rest in absolute peace, great man. Services were held Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Christ Church of Oak Brook. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute at www.giving.northwestern.edu/nu/luriecancercenter. Hallowell & James Funeral Home in Countryside assisted the family. Info: (708) 352-6500

I still think about Stephen when we were at the MIZZOU football game. He was an extremely nice man and loving father to his children. He was also funny and just fun to be around!

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Stephen was a wonderful father and it definitely shows in his 2 loving children. I think of his family often and how they have carried on, with dignity and a full heart of love and FUN!!

Tom, Tom and Jeff,
Of course I have so many fond memories of all the Buntings, including Tinker and Texas.

One of the best surprises of my life was when Steve showed up unannounced at my research lab in Salt Lake City, looking for a job. I never expected to run into someone from Pittsfield, let alone a smiling friend from S. Jackson!

My deepest condolences to you.

Susan and Family,

Stephen will be sadly missed, but happily remembered. His mischievous, almost conspiratorial smile, quick wit and great sense of humor always made me happy to see him. We're so sorry he's gone.

I know he'll be watching Ian play this fall, just like he always did from the sidelines and the stands.

Our sincerest condolences.

My heart goes out to Dr. Bunting's family during this most difficult time. I worked with Dr. Bunting at Concentra, and I can honestly say that I never met someone that was so proud of his wife and children as he was. He will be truly missed and I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. B. I had the pleasure of meeting and working with him at Concentra. We shared many laughs along the way. I loved hearing the stories of his family and the pride he displayed. He was mercurial man but we grew to be dear friends. He will definitely be missed. Those who had the pleasure of meeting him will agree he was a great man. My condolences to the Bunting family.

RIP Dr. Bunting. No doubt, gone way before his time. Steve, gave the most memorable speech I can ever remember at the passing of his Mother, Mary Bunting, just a couple of years ago in Pittsfield IL, where we grew up. I sincerely can't remember, EVER, hearing a better, most heartfelt speech dedicated to his Mom. A speech for his Mom, his friends, the community. I can say truthfully, one of the best, if not the best, I've ever heard. He was true to his family as any man could ever be. Very sorry for Jeff, Tom, and the Buntings. Steve will be sorely lost. God Bless their family. So very sorry for your loss.

Dear Bunting family,
I was deeply saddened to hear about my good friend Steve. We grew up together and I always greatly enjoyed the times our paths would cross over the many years. Your husband and father was a kind, thoughtful, caring spirit who deeply loved his family.
I watched Steve give an amazing eulogy at his mother's service in 2013. Later that evening we connected to reminisce and laugh about all the times past along with our lives and families. My deepest condolences to you.

Dear Susan, Rachel and Ian,

Deepest condolences go out to all of you from Kimberly, Monique and me.

The time we spent with Stephen and Susan during our "turbulent" year living in Orlando, formed some of my most precious memories.

They were so warm and welcoming and added the humor and comfort we needed during our culture shock.

Stephen was truly one in a million and I'm grateful to have known him. You now have another angel watching over you. RIP gentle man.
