Trip was a great guy. He and Helen will always have a warm part in the hearts of Linda and I. Dick got me involved with the NCAA Tourney when he invited me to go with him after the Lake Forest Hoop Season ended in 1962. It was because of Trip that I have had lifelong relationships with John Wooden and Tyrone Corbin. Not t mention all the times we spent in his beloved basement in Lake Bluff where a lifetime of memories were there to be enjoyed. Trip was a lifelong friend and is missed by all.

I met Dick in the mid 2000's at the Tribute to Bix Beiderbecke in Racine Wisconsin. He was a very personable fellow, loaded with stories of the beginnings of professional basketball. He related that because of his fancy footwork they sometimes called him "Tiptoe Triptow". When I got back to New York that year, I told my friend Gene's father about my meeting with Dick, and he remembered seeing him play in the old Madison Square Garden. My condolences to his family, he was a really nice man.

My condolences to the Triptow family on their loss. Didn't know Richard's background, re: his accomplishments, until I recently read his obit in the Chicago Tribune. I went to St. Patrick's H.S. back in the mid 1950's where he was a teacher in a couple of my classes. Rest in peace Richard.

Helen, Donna, Janice and the entire Triptow family
Coach was a "renaissance man" before the term was coined. Athlete, author, coach and mentor all combined in one remarkable man. He will be missed but will live daily in the many lives he had a positive impact on. Miss you coach.

My deepest condolences to the Triptow family on your loss. Coach, you gave me the chance to play the game I loved. Not necessarily because I was that talented but because I gave it 100% all the time and you recognized the effort. It was a life lesson that has served me well all these years. Rest in peace coach. Helen, Donna and Janice,
Linda and I were so saddened to hear about Trip's passing. I was fortunate enough to have spent time with Coach over the years and was so rewarded for every visit. He was a historian, humanitarian, teacher,
Coach, storyteller and a wonderful person to have known. All of our lives were enriched by knowing all of you as well as we did all these years. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Dick Triptow was my basketball coach at St. Patrick High School from 1953 thru 1957. His skill as a coach taught me the finer aspects of the game as well as sportsmanship and character as a young man. Fortunately, I was able to keep some loose contact with him at DePaul golf outings and DePaul basketball games over the years since I too was a DePaul alum.

He remains a prime person in building my transition from boyhood into manhood. I will miss him, but he will always be in my memory as an influential mentor of my youth.

To the Family of Dick Triptow,
At DePaul I was a member of the '43-'44 team and that is where I met Dick. He was a Junior and I a Freshman and he immediately became my role model, for which I am very grateful. I'm sure he has continued to inspire thousands of others in the same way over these many years. Please accept my sincerest sympathies. We all lost a really great guy.
