Deacon Ray, was a soft spoken friend of the sailors on Lake Michigan. He lead a Mass every year after the Chicago-Mackinac Race on the Island for all who wanted to attend. One year there was a deadly storm and St. Anne's church was packed and overflowing with members of the fleet who needed some spiritual comfort and leadership, which he humbly supplied.

Dear Evilene and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Deacon Ray has made a huge impact on our family. His words inspired us at my wedding and my kids baptisms. He inspired all our crew and other sailors every year after each race on Mackinac island. His words at mass and when we were just hanging out, were very powerful. He would move me to tears, and joy, and laughter, and to this overwhelming feeling of being closer to God everytime he spoke of Him. My family loved him with all their heart. We will always remember and cherish every moment we had with him. God bless Deacon Ray, and you and your family

Dear family, I want you to know how much Ray meant to the surrounding community and churches. At St. John's Faith Church in Matteson we considered Ray family. He helped our church in the past and we admired him for being so ecumenical. We're not so different after all. He will be missed!

Many years ago our Son Charlie was in Bloom's Band & the band had an opportunity to go to Iowa. Deacon Deabel not only looked after our son during that trip but he also fed him spiritually. Our son still remembers that trip fondly. We have had the occasion to be ministered to by Deacon Ray when we were patients at St James Hospital. This man was truly sent by God to help all of us in any way he could and he will be missed dearly. God Bless him and his family and may perpetual light shine upon him. Evie and family, Ray was a representative of Christ Jesus. I loved hearing him speak at St. Agnes. He would lift my spirit up so high that I felt that I could almost touch Heaven. Evie and Family,
I was saddened to learn of Ray's passing. He was a good man and contributed to the betterment of St. James. He spurred me to shave my head in recognition of St. James success, he organized a car show to express his and others' passions for antique vehicles, and he, of course provided spiritual guidance and support. He was a big man in stature and heart, and will be missed. My condolences.
