Marie Bousfield Obituary

Marie V. Bousfield, age 77, of Chicago died on March 16, 2016. She was the beloved wife of Aldridge K. "Peter" Bousfield and sister of the late Alfons Vastersavendts. Born and raised in Asse, Belgium, she earned a doctorate in mathematics from the Free University of Brussels and was awarded a Belgian American Educational Foundation Fellowship that brought her to Massachusetts, where she married Aldridge Bousfield and worked as a mathematical statistician. She and her husband then moved to Chicago to join the young University of Illinois at Chicago, and in 1975 she began a long career as a demographer for the City of Chicago. She authored numerous reports for the City and provided technical assistance on population data and analysis. Marie was also active in the Belgian American community of Chicago and wrote occasional columns for the Gazette Van Detroit, the leading international Belgian American publication. With her husband, she thoroughly enjoyed life in Chicago. As she wished, there will be no memorial service, but donations may be sent to NTM Info & Research via www.ntminfo.org to combat NTM disease.

I knew Marie from occasional data requests while I worked as an epidemiologist in Chicago's Public Health Department. She was a beacon of top notch expertise, dedication, and professionalism in a setting where those attributes were not always easy to find. I am sorry to learn, belatedly, of her passing.

I know the intensity of missing is great now and it may even feel worse at times. Throw your burdens on God (Matt 6:34) and he will help reduce the pain over time.
