Carl Tips Obituary

Carl Bradley Tips, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2016. Brad was born on February 22, 1935 in New York City to Carl and Alice Tips. Brad and his younger sister Doris grew up in rural upstate New York on Lake Waccabuc. Brad left for high school where he attended Choate Academy, and ran track. After graduating from Choate in 1953, Brad attended Williams College where he graduated with a degree in History, and established life long friendships. Following college, Brad joined the Army Reserves, and soon after started his career in Advertising as an account representative with Philadelphia Paper in Philadelphia. Brad made his way to Chicago where he reunited with close friends from Williams College. It was through his close friends he was introduced to his future wife Virginia Speakman. Brad and Virginia married on January 2, 1965, and settled down in Northfield, IL where they raised 3 children, David (Jennifer), Bradley (Mary), and the late Stephen. Brad has five loving grandchildren. Brad continued a distinguished 40 year career in advertising including 15 years at Foote, Cone & Belding and 12 years at Cramer Krasselt where he helped to build and grow the Chicago office. Brad was actively involved in fundraising for the Northwestern Memorial Hospital liver disease research program. He was President of Glenview Club and a strong supporter of the Evans Scholar program. He thrived in building relationships and loved serving on membership committees at The Country Club of Florida, The Ocean Club, and Glen View Club. Services will be held on Thursday, September 1 at 4:00 pm at The Northfield Community Church, 400 Wagner Road, Northfield, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Northwestern Memorial Foundation - ALF research, Attn: Ann Murray, 251 Huron Street, Suite 3-200, Chicago, Il 60611

Tips family, your Brad was so loved! As young copywriters at Cramer-Krasselt, my husband Don and I enjoyed working with Brad. What a presence; what a smile! Our condolences.

Dear Tips Family- I am saddened to hear of Brad's passing. He was my first boss at FCB! I had just graduated from college and he took a chance on me. Brad taught me much about the advertising business and supported my growth at FCB. Ginny, I spoke to you on the phone many times while I was Brad's secretary. He always talked so lovingly and proud about his family. "Mr. Tips" will be remembered fondly by those of us fortunate to have worked with him and known him. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Regards,
Gayle Heldmann (Coyle)

Cindy and I want to express our deep condolences on Brad's passing. I was lucky to know Brad from the first day I joined FCB back in 1976, and have always viewed him as a very special person. Always with a smile, welcoming, interesting to speak with, supportive of everyone he knew, friendly, smart, and "a good guy". We will miss this "good guy" but know well that he has touched many people along the way.

Regards,
Terry and Cindy Peigh
