John D. Mankowski, WWII Army Airforce Veteran. Beloved husband and best friend for 57 years to Marcillia, nee Serek; loving father of Donald (Sarah) of Merritt Island, FL and David (Cindi); cherished grandfather of Karen (Christopher) Stadnicki, Michael and John; son of the late John Mankowski and the late Emily, nee Obirek; and brother of the late Florience Tasharski; fond brother-in-law of Bernard (Diane) Serek of Columbus, OH, the late Marie (Frank Sr.) Marik, and the late John Kowalczyk; caring uncle of James, Thomas, and Jerry Marik and Mary Ann Buckingham, Charles Tasharski, Laurie Driscoll, Kathi and Christine Serek and the late Frank Marik Jr.; loving great-uncle to many great nieces and nephews. Kind and generous proprietor of John's Foodstore in Chicago for 33 years. Member of the Chicago Police American Legion Post #207. Funeral Monday, 9:30 a.m. from Becvar & Son Funeral Home, 5539 West 127th Street, Crestwood, IL, (Arrangements by Wolniak Funeral Directors) to St. Alexander Church in Palos Heights, IL for 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Sunday, 2 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, masses or donations to Palos Hospice Program appreciated 630-257-1111. For further information, call 708-824-9000.
