MICHIE, Tenn. – Bonnie Schlesser, 52, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at South Shiloh Church in Shiloh, Tenn. Interment will be in Michie Cemetery in Michie, Tenn. Corinthian Funeral Home of Corinth is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.

BRUCE – Bobby Sexton, 61, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Sheffield, Ruby - Mantachie  
MANTACHIE – Ruby Ione Sheffield, 95, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, in Tupelo. She was born May 18, 1919, in Itawamba County to John Mark and Una Nora Walton Turner. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church since 1931. She retired from Mantachie Manufacturing after over 30 years of service and worked at Peggy's Shoes in Tupelo until she was 91. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies including riding horses, flower gardening, traveling with her friends, cooking, knitting, and cross-stitching. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, at the Shiloh United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin, Bro. Bill Adams, and the Rev. Ron Schwake officiating. Burial will be in the Mantachie Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include her two daughters, Peggy Privette (C.C.) of Wheeler and Paulette Ball Reese (Ray) of Pontotoc; three stepsons, Phil, Wayne and Joe Sheffield, all of Memphis; four grandchildren, Martha Everitt, Richerria Brady (Scott), Robert Barber (Lori) and Greg Ball (Lori); 11 great-grandchildren, Jessica Koehn, Eric Everitt, Nicole Ball, Hannah Ball, Nicholas Brady, Natalie Brady, Nathan Brady, Taylor Barber, Justin Barber, Jordan Barber and Lynsey Barber; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; her special friends and caregivers, Louise Reynolds and Hazel Wigginton; and her special pet, Bella. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Treman Sheffield and Truman Sheffield; two sons, Eugene Sheffield and Terry Sheffield; one grandson, Grant Sheffield; two sisters, Emma Smith and Lucille White; three brothers, Audie Turner, Will Turner and Holland Turner; and a special friend, Earlene Cooley. Pallbearers will be Robert Barber, Greg Ball, Justin Barber, Jordan Barber, Nathan Brady and Eric Everitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Archie Cates, Hal Kelso, Andy Kelso, Eddie Cooley, Jerry Thompson, Larry Smith, Ronnie Witcher and Buddy Rushing. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Shiloh United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice. Smithey, Rev. Danny Lee - Byhalia  
BYHALIA – The Rev. Danny Lee Smithey, 64, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Desoto. He was born October 22, 1950, to James D. Smithey Sr. and Susie Covington Smithey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He pastored Marianna Baptist Church in Byhalia. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at United Funeral Service with the Rev. Wayne Cobb and the Rev. Bobby Butler officiating. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Gracie Cheatwood Smithey; two daughters, Ginny Roberts (Trent) and Susie Gross (Mikkel); one son, Stuart Smithey; four sisters, Betty Smithey, Jo Anne Diaz, Edna Ruth Keith and Brenda Browning; four brothers, Bill Smithey, James D. Smithey Jr., Clyde Waymon Smithey and the Rev. Mike Smithey; seven grandchildren, John Isaac Roberts, Ben Roberts, Noah Roberts, Dewey Smithey, Anna Bell Smithey, Natalie Gross and Conor Gross. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Foreman; and two brothers, Bobby Ray Smithey and Boyd Smithey. Pallbearers will be Buddy Smithey, James Smithey, Ronnie Cobb, Mack McDonald, , McDonald and Gary McDonald. Visitation will be today from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In honor of Rev. Smithey's service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Army flag during his visitation and funeral service. Smothers, Pearline Tucker - Tupelo  
TUPELO – Annie Pearline Tucker Smothers, 95, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at the Green Houses at Traceway. She was born in Pontotoc County on April 4, 1919, to Eldridge Morton and Leather Valine Archer Tucker and was a 1937 graduate of Tupelo High School with distinction in business. She married Doyle Rice Smothers on November 16, 1938, and they were married for 69 years until his passing in 2008. During her working career she worked for attorney, Samuel E. Lumpkin; "Josh" Whitesides, President of People's Bank; attorneys, Marshall Adams and Sam Long; A.B. Friend, engineer for Lafayette County Board at the time of construction of the Sardis Dam; Larry Allen, President of Central Services Association; bookkeeper for Northeast Mississippi Community Hospital (presently NMMC); Harrisburg Baptist Church as the church's first secretary; and concluded her working career as a free-lance court reporter and as the official court reporter for Judge James Bost in Pontotoc County. She was an avid gardener who really enjoyed the beauty of her azaleas and caladiums and was very active in the Magnolia Garden Club, the Altrusa Club and the Thursday Culture Club. She was a faithful supporter of Faith Haven Shelter Home for Children and active member of Parkway Baptist Church, serving in many capacities in the Sunday School department, WMU and music ministries. She was a strong supporter of the family unit and really enjoyed her time with her family and grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Matt Scopel officiating with special music by Randy Wood and Judy Williams. A graveside service will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include sons, William D. Smothers (Karen) and David L. Smothers (Jennifer), both of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Alecia McMath (Michael), Kara Penny (Douglas), Mary Stewart (John), all of Tupelo, Dr. Brian Smothers (Dr. Melissa Smothers) of Wauwatosa, WI and Joseph Smothers (Kristen) of Tupelo; six great-grandchildren, Anna Grace and Peyton McMath, Will Penny, Tucker Stewart, Judah and Bennett Smothers; sister, Dorothy Glynn Scallorn of Batesville; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Rice Smothers; her great-grandson, Jonathan Andrew Douglas Penny; and her parents. Pallbearers will be Joseph Smothers, Dr. Brian Smothers, John Stewart, Doug Penny, Johnny Tucker and Ross Scallorn. Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2015, at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo. Memorials may be made to Parkway Baptist Church, 1302 Lee Street, Tupelo, MS 38804 or to Sanctuary Hospice House, 5159 W. Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38801.
