DENNIS – Douglas Ray ""Doug"" Bennett, 49, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his residence. He was born June 7, 1964, in Tupelo. He played varsity football at Belmont High School and he was a certified auto mechanic. He was retired from the Mississippi Army National Guard after 26 years and was sergeant of Troop C 1st Cavalry. He served three tours, one in Bosnia and two in Iraq. He was a very generous, kind-hearted person who helped numerous people throughout his life. He was a member of Red Bud Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, April 12, at Red Bud Baptist Church at Dennis with Bro. Bobby Jarrell and Bro. Edwin Pharr officiating. Burial will be in East Prentiss Cemetery at New Site. Deaton Funeral Home at Belmont will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by a brother, David Bennett (Zane) of Dennis; a nephew, Kyle Bennett (Leigha) of Belmont; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Nella Faye Bennett; and a niece, Christian Faith Bennett.
Pallbearers will be Gary Pounders, David High, Wendall Grubbs, Tabo McAnally and Larry Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Moore, Tillman Ivy and Keith Bennett.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today at Red Bud Baptist Church.
