ABERDEEN – Lee Hill Harrington, 100, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Garden Suites Assisted Living in Aberdeen. He was born Jan. 23, 1914, to L.T. Harrington and Rose Hill Harrington in Woodland. He was a resident of Aberdeen for 94 years. After graduating from high school in Aberdeen in 1933, he attended Chillicothe Business School in Chillicothe, Mo., in 1936. He graduated and started working for a tobacco company in Kansas City, Mo. After a year, he moved to Memphis and worked for Good Year Tire and Rubber Company. In 1937 he married Gwendolyn Whitaker. They lived in Aberdeen all of their 62 years of marriage. He entered the farming business and farmed until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Aberdeen Golf and Country Club and some of his farm workers planted the grass on the Aberdeen High School football field. He was on the Aberdeen Separate School District Board of Trustees from 1946 to 1961 and served as a chairman from 1956 to 1961. He was a member of Monroe Banking and Trust Company Board of Directors from 1954 to 1981 and served as chairman from 1975 to 1981. He was appointed to the Bank of Mississippi Board in Tupelo from 1981 to 1984 and remained in an emeritus capacity for several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served in many capacities for his church. He sang in the chancel church choir for 50 years.
Services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday, April 13, at First United Methodist Church of Aberdeen with the Rev. Keith Williams, Roger Collins and York Craig officiating. Entombment will be at Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Gwynne Lee Barrett of Aberdeen; one son, Frank Harrington and wife, Cathi, of Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Leigh Mobley and husband, Keith, Lynn Barrett and husband, Drew, Ainsley Blue and husband, Trey, Jay Barrett and wife, Sarah, and Whit Harrington; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gwendolyn Mae Whitaker Harrington; two grandchildren, Wyche Harrington and Lee Taylor Harrington; one great-grandchild, Gwendolyn Elise Mobley; and three sisters, Elizabeth Lilley, Ruth Weaver and Mary Virginia Harrington.
Pallbearers will be Whit Harrington, Drew Mackenzie, Keith Mobley, Woody Craig, John Wise, Chip Henley and Trey Blue.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen.
