PONTOTOC – Ernestine Pickering, 89, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Pontotoc Extended Care Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 12, 1925, to William Henry Dillard and Mary Jane Dillard. She married James W. Pickering in Shannon on Nov. 11, 1942. She was a member of West Heights Baptist Church and a retired Pontotoc City School cafeteria worker and a homemaker.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, April 8, at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane Andrews of Pontotoc; two sons, Steve Pickering (Donna) of Pontotoc and David Pickering of Opelika, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Warren (Joe), Mandy Thompson (Jim), Melanie Truitt (Brent), James Pickering, Lex Pickering (Laura), Matt Pickering, Jared Andrews and Cole Andrews (Alicia); one stepgrandson, Steve Kelly (Kim); seven great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Kale, Evelyn and Landon Pickering, Anna Claire Warren, Cooper and Jagger Andrews; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Heather Cox (Rick) and Avery McLean; one stepgreat-great-grandchild, Wesley Cox; and special friend, Peggy Moore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and nine siblings, Loyce Dillard, Carl Dillard, Gayron Dillard, Gertie Sappington, Thelma Gentry Rieves, Ruth Stafford White, Conard Sappington, Raymond Sappington and Will H. (Jr.) Dillard.
Pallbearers will be James Pickering, Lex Pickering, Matt Pickering, Jared Andrews, Cole Andrews and Joe Warren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
