PLANTERSVILLE – Mr. Newell Davis Alred Sr., 75, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Magnolia Manor following an extended illness. He was born in Lee County on December 5, 1938, to Cleveland Alred and Burne Guin Alred. He was patriotic, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1958, and he worked many years as a truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with family and riding horses.

A memorial service celebrating Newell's life will be at 6:30 p.m. today, June 24, 2014, in the Nettleton Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Mark Hoover officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to service time.
Survivors include his two sons, David Alred of Tupelo and Newell Alred Jr. of Mooreville; one brother, Dennis (Cynthia) of Plantersville; three sisters, Pat Sheffield (Jimmy) of Mooreville, Wanda Dillard of Plantersville and Sandra Collier (Butch) of Oxford; sister-in-law, Debbie Alred of Plantersville; grandchildren, Justin Alred of Tupelo and Kenny Alred of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tom Guin, Gene Alred and W.D. Alred; one sister, Elmonta Fowler; and one grandson, Daniel Alred.
Honorary pallbearers are Chip Riner, Kenny, Justin, Brad, Jon and Steven Alred.
