Ballard, Henry - Vina  
HENRY BALLARD Henry Ballard, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on June 22nd, surrounded by his loving family. Henry, affectionately known as Cap, was born April 10, 1924 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Henry and Pearl Ballard. He moved to Vina, California at the age of 7 with his family where they began farming. He graduated from the Vina Elementary School and Los Molinos High School, where he served as FFA president. Shortly after graduation in 1943, he joined the U.S. Army Air Force and was trained as a radar technician, serving in World War II. After returning home after the War he and his family began planting walnut orchards, eventually forming the Ballard Brothers Corporation, which he farmed for over 50 years. Upon his retirement he and his wife Judy traveled extensively throughout the 48 states in their motorhome, and visited Hawaii and Alaska with family members. Cap is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy, and two children, Jim Burgett (Debbie) and Robin Bicocca (Bruno). He was also blessed with six loving grandchildren: Aaron Mathrole (Sheila), Amber Mathrole-Metcalf (Alllie), Robert Mathrole (Natalie), Adam Burgett; Shannon Scofield (Tyler), Ashley Seals (Rick) and four great -grandchildren, Cole, Lucas, Amelia and Ada. Services will be held on Friday, June 26th, 11:00 a.m. at Newton Bracewell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Vina Elementary School, P.O. Brown, Richard - Chico  
RICHARD BROWN Richard E. Brown, the eldest son of Charles and Ruth Brown, was born on April 30, 1923 in San Miguel, New Mexico and passed away in Chico on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the age of 92, surrounded by his loving family. He moved with the family to Chico and lived in the city until he signed up for the Army Air Corp in 1943 to serve his country in World War II in which he was a co-pilot and flew B-24's over Germany while based in Italy. His active military service continued during the Korean War and ultimately he stayed in the Air Force Reserves where he retired at the rank of Major in 1983. Dick, as he was known to all of his friends and family, married Eunice A. Hill in 1954 and they raised two children, a son Barry and a daughter Sherry. He worked for the Pacific Bell phone company for nearly 40 years during which he held various managerial positions in Willows, Chico, Sacra-mento, Tracy, San Francisco and finally in Petaluma from where he retired in 1978. This led him to his second career of driving a big rig 18 wheeler which was something he really enjoyed. He finally retired from that job in 1987 and Eunice and he traveled around the country in their motor home, spending time visiting family and winters down in Yuma, AZ. Dick was active in Rotary International, in which he was the President of the organization in Petaluma and Tracy. He was President of Junior Achievement in Peta-luma and President of the Chamber of Comm-erce in Tracy. He held honors in the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Elk's and Methodist Church and was active in its works. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Charles, as well as his son Barry. He is survived by his loving wife Eunice, his daughter Sherry and son-in-law Clifford, his sisters Carol and Betty and his brother Daniel and his grandson Christopher and his wife Morgan Olson of WA, his granddaughter Andrea DiSalle and grandson Richard of CO. He has three great grandchildren, Camron, Faith and Joshia. He is also sur-vived by his brother-in- law and sister-in-law, Don and Rita Hill of Manteca and his sister-in-law Janet Hill of Clovis as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and an extended family of friends across the country. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home. A viewing will be held from 6-8 on Saturday at the funeral home. Entomb-ment will take place at Chico Memorial Mauso-leum. Memorial contribu-tions may be made to either the VFW or Bidwell Presbyterian Church. Butler, Helyn - Woodbridge  
HELYN BUTLER Helyn Rae James Butler, born in Oakland, CA on November 5, 1925, passed away of natural causes on November 22, 2014 in Woodbridge, VA at 89. She leaves behind her daughters Melanie Butler and Cheryl Vernon(Ron), grandson Michael Cuperdija and his wife Andrea. She is predeceased by her husband Jack H. Butler, son Timothy Jesse Butler, her parents Tom and Paula James, her sister Mariam Tyler and brother Howard McQuone. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Her charm and sense of humor were captivating by all who knew her. Helyn graduated from Chico State College and her first teaching job was teaching art in Courtland, CA. Her artistic ability and appreciation of antiques were shared and enjoyed by many, who benefited from her talent and expertise, wherever she resided. She was dearly loved by her family and many friends in Woodbridge, Chico, Healdsburg, Turkey, Russia and other parts of the world where she traveled and resided throughout her life She lives on in our thoughts and memories and is sadly missed. Funeral services were held privately.
