July 8, 1981 - December 28, 2008

Blake was born July 8, 1981 and passed away in his sleep on December 28, 2008 at the age of 27, of natural causes.

Blake was a 1999 graduate of Paradise High School and earned his EMT certificate through Monterey Peninsula Community College. Blake was currently serving in the US Army and was very proud to be an American Soldier and a Cavalry Scout. He touched many people with his infectious smile and keen wit.

Blake was looking forward to a long military career and was very proud of his accomplishments and the training he had taken in anticipation of an overseas deployment in March.

Blake is survived by his parents, Chris Atherton and Brooke Atherton of Paradise; sister, Jennifer Pakula (brother-in-law Jacob) of Laguna Niguel; uncle, Matt Mansfield of Sunnyvale; cousin, Natasha Mansfield of Long Beach; uncle, Robert Mansfield, Jr. of Texas; aunt, Joy Mattos of Alturas and aunt, Susan Mattos of Salmo, British Columbia along with numerous other cousins. Blake is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Mansfield (San Francisco) and George and Martha Atherton (Paradise) and his aunt, Jade Mansfield (Greenfield).

Blake will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jade A. Mansfield Elder Abuse Prevention Fund, c/o Legal Services for Seniors, 915 Hilby Avenue, Suite 2, Seaside, CA 93955.

A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of the Pines in Paradise, on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. All who knew Blake are welcome. It was Blake's wishes that he be buried next to his aunt Jade in Monterey County. A military service will follow at Ft. Bliss, TX.
