GERTUDE EMERICK(1933 - 2013)

GERTRUDE (GERT) LAVONNE EMERICK Gertrude (Gert) Lavonne Emerick, 79, of Chico went "Home" to be with her Lord on January 19, 2013, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at the Family Life Church, 13495 Garner Lane, Chico, California. Arrangements are being handled by Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home, 680 Camillia Way, Chico, California. Gert was born March 20, 1933 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Benjamin and Frances Oleson (preceded in death). During her life she lived in Iowa, Minnesota and California, moving to Chico in 1981 with her husband, George (preceded in death 9-10-11). During her years in Chico Gert worked as a caregiver. She thrived on giving her testimony of God to everyone; that it inspired the hearts and lives of people in need, put smiles on faces and made people forget their troubles. She loved dedicating her time to the Sarah Home and the Well Ministry. Gert was "mom" to many of her friends. She will be remembered for her giving nature and fiesty spirit. She leaves her loving memories to her cherished family, daughter Marjorie Hatfield (Jack), Oroville, California; son, David Waggoner (Lee), Anoka, Minnesota; daughter Cheri Ekstrand (Larry), Fridley, Minnesota; (daughter Lori Kramer, preceded in death); grandchildren Lisa, Mark, Katie Waggoner; Matthew Hatfield, Molly Foster, and Tom Kramer; and five great-grandchildren. Brother, Don Oleson (Wanda), Iowa, (preceded in death by brother Raymond Oleson and sister Dorothy Merrill). Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Enloe Palliative Care Team of Dr. Brown and Lori Falge-Philips and to the fourth floor oncology staff who took such great care of our mom in her final days. We wish to thank Dr. Nicole Whitlatch and her staff including Ed, Candice and Gary for their loving care and support for the last two years. Also, we wish to thank the staff at the Enloe Infusion Center for their compassion and kindness. Gert was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and to those at Family Life Church. We thank you for your friendship, support, and most importantly, your unconditional love. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Well Ministry of Rescue, 2612 Esplanade, Chico, CA 95973 or the Family Life Church. "When I go, don't cry for me, in my Father's arms I'll be. The wounds this world left on my soul will all be healed and I'll be whole."
