Louis "Lou" DeMeyer(1931 - 2013)

LOUIS "LOU" DEMEYER Louis "Lou" DeMeyer, 81 passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2013, after a valiant 14 year battle with cancer. Louis was born August 3, 1931, in Inglewood, CA to Basil and Lillian DeMeyer; he was raised in a farming family in the Palo Verde Valley town of Blythe, CA. After serving in the US Army from 1953-55, he relocated to Corning, CA until 1965. In the next several years, Louis did row crop farming for his brother Ray in Butte and Glenn counties. In 1968, he met and married Marlene Droste (died 2005); and purchased a small farm in Durham where they raised four children. He retired in 1997 after working for Durham Unified School District for 14 years. Louis had a passion for nurturing and enjoying his fruit and nut trees. He believed in a hard day's work and was characterized by his infectious smile and a good sense of humor. Louis will be most remembered as a prayerful man whose life centered around loving and serving God; he showed us how to live and die. He was a founding member in establishing St. Therese Catholic Church in 1995. He is survived by sons Vincent DeMeyer of Vacaville, CA and Luke DeMeyer of Durham, CA; daughters Tonya Wilkins of Phoenix, AZ and Maria DeMeyer of Roseville, CA; six grandchildren; brother Ray DeMeyer; sisters Therese Gaston and Ruthie Villen. Visitation and public Rosary will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 7:00 pm at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1749 Spruce Ave., Chico. Requiem Mass will follow on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10:00 am followed by interment at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, Chico. Arrangements are under the direction of F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary of Willows.
