MARJORIE GAINES(1932 - 2013)

MARJORIE GAINES Marjorie Gaines, of Leander, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 8, 2013, at the age of 80. Complications caused by her battle with Cancer, ended a long and fruitful life. Born to Richard and Marjorie Fisher on March 9, 1932 in Alameda, CA. "Margie" married her high school sweetheart, Jack, after his return from the Korean war in 1950, and remained his loving wife for 62 years. Margie provided Jack with inspiration, strength and direction, as well as three daughters; Nancy, Sally and Jennifer. Margie, Jack and family became used to living in many different places, as Jack was transferred to several locations throughout California while working for Chevron. They lived and raised their children in San Leandro, Bakersfield, Atascadero, Salinas, Chico, and Sacramento. In each new town they moved to, Margie established a lovely home and the family continued their life-long involvement with the Lutheran Church, serving in various capacities and ministries. Her artistic talents could be seen by spending time in her homes, with her often designing floor plans, supervising construction, landscaping and decorating. After retirement in 1989, Margie and Jack continued exploring new places, living in: New Mexico, Arkansas, and Texas. Margie and Jack continued to find adventure through travel, visiting grandchildren, building houses, landscaping; sampling the culture, food and drink of the many places they lived and traveled to. In the words of some of her grandchildren: "Grandma has always been an excellent cook, and always put together amazing meals followed by the dessert of ice cream every single day." "She loved to shop and pick out girly items alongside her granddaughters." "She always put excessive thought into giving gifts and always wanted to know how everyone was doing all the time." "Margie was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother and was always there for you when you needed her." "Grandma taught me how to drink fine wine, and never to pay full price." "She showed me how to appreciate the finer things in life." Margie Gaines maintained high personal standards, expecting the best of herself and her family. She was known for her organizational skills and the diligence with which she maintained her home and supported her family's pursuit of their dreams. Her love was expressed through her generous hospitality, thoughtful gifts, common sense advice and hard work on their behalf. Her caring nature and tenacious loyalty helped her family through successes and hard times. " If Margie loved you, she loved you." Margie is remembered and loved by her husband and daughters, as well as her grandchildren; Lauren, Reid, Rose, Sara, David, Nathan and Katie. Graveside services were held at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Liberty Hill, Texas. with close family and friends.
