ARTHUR CLIFFORD "CLIFF" SANBORN Arthur Clifford "Cliff" Sanborn passed away peacefully at home October 9th after a courageous battle with cancer. Cliff was born December 1, 1923 in Chico, California to a pioneer Butte County family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy Marler Sanborn of Redding. Three children, Chuck (Barbara), Sandra (Danen Heath) and Laurie Reynolds, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Cliff was an Eagle Scout graduating from Chico High School then he began military service with the Army Air Corp in 1943 and saw action in Italy, France, Germany and England. After graduating from Chico State College he relocated in 1950 to Weaverville, teaching business subjects at Trinity County High School and was audio visual director in the county Superintendent of Schools office. He became Trinity County Superintendent of Schools. He was an active member of the Weaverville community as Scout Master for Troop 15 of the Boy Scouts of America, a member of E Clampus Vitus, Mt. Bally Parlor no. 87 Native Sons of the Golden West, Rotary, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Redding Elks Lodge and was a lifetime member of the Butte County Historical Society. He was known for his advancement of education and opportunities for young people. Cliff enjoyed his retired years with his family, especially fishing on Hat Creek and traveling to Hawaii. He was incredibly devoted to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren passing on his love of history, photography, his humor and his sense of adventure. He is beloved by his family and will always be cherished as Papa. Viewing will be Wednesday October 16 at Allen and Dahl from 1 pm to 5 pm. Services will be held at National Veterans Cemetery in Igo onThursday, October 17, at 12:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his name to Mercy Hospice, KIXE or Trinity Scholarship Foundation PO box 2000, Weaverville. Cliff was truly a member of the greatest generation.
