Arthur Welch Obituary

ARTHUR L. WELCH 1922-2013 Arthur L. Welch passed away peacefully after a short illness on February 25, 2013. His beloved wife of 72 years was at his side. Art, as he was known by, was born on January 11, 1922 to Frank and Leafy Welch, and grew up in the small Nebraska town of Tekamah. He met his future wife, Marie Nielsen while attending Dana College in Blair, Nebraska. World War II took him overseas for 3 years where he served in the Pacific Theater. Seriously wounded he earned a purple heart and 3 bronze stars for valor. After a long trip home on a wartime hospital ship he and Marie returned to Eureka briefly before moving to Chico to begin a 40 year career with Pacific Gas and Electric Company. He served in a number of positions including several years in Quincy. He retired as a public relations person working out of the Paradise Office. After retirement he and Marie remained in Paradise until moving to their current home in Chico retirement facility in 2000. He was a member of the Chico Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge in Chico. Included in his family are son, Howard Welch of Cottonwood, CA; grandchildren, Brian Welch of Redding and Brooke Welch of Berkeley, CA. At Art's request no public service will be held.
