JERI VERESCHAGIN Jeri Vereschagin came into this world named Geraldine Ann McCarl on January 1, 1935 in St. Paul Minnesota. This first baby of the year was the daughter of Scott and Wyla McCarl. She grew up in the Saint Anthony Park section of St. Paul, and graduated from Murray High School in 1953. After one year in Glendale, her family moved to Palo Alto, California, and Jeri enrolled as a sophomore in the College of the Pacific (now University of the Pacific). At Pacific, she was a member of Alpha Theta Tau Sorority and served as president in the fall semester of 1956. At Pacific she became engaged to Alex Vereschagin, and after graduation they married on August 3, 1957 in Palo Alto. Together they raised three wonderful sons while making their home in Orland. Jeri was an elementary school teacher, was active in her church, a member of the Children's Home Society and taught a 4H class in cooking for boys. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the Lambda Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Jeri was the first president of Friends of the Orland Library. She remained active in the education of young people, and served as a director on the board of the Pacific Alumni Association. Jeri is honored by the naming of the Alex and Jeri Vereschagin Alumni House on the University of the Pacific Campus in Stockton, California. With Alex as pilot in command, Jeri toured North America numerous times in their Beechcraft Bonanza Airplane. Foreign travel took them to adventures in Africa, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean. In 2002, they built a second home in Graeagle and enjoyed the high Sierra mountains, lakes and streams. Jeri is survived by two brothers, Jim and Chuck McCarl, and her sister Bonnie McCullough. Her 3 sons are Craig, Kenneth, and Robert Vereschagin. She has six grandchildren; Jill Vereschagin, Allison Smith, Cara and Camille Vereschagin, Nicole and Luke Vereschagin. Three great grandchildren, Trinity, Zachary, and Breydin, are the beginnings of the next generation. A memorial Service will be at 11:00 am at the Orland Federated Church, highway 32 and First Street, in Orland on Wednesday, July 24th The "Jeri Vereschagin Memorial" will be at the Orland Free Library, 333 Mill Street, Orland, CA 95963. F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary will be handling all arrangements.
