Joseph S. Bellinger, age 91 of Magalia, passed away Sept. 6, 2005. Joseph was born on Aug. 15, 1914 in Marcus, Wash.

He moved to Oakland in 1926. He served in the U.S. Army from 1933-1935 and later joined the Merchant Marines and served there from 1941 until 1945. He was a graduate of the Merchant Marine's Officer Candidate School in Alameda, Calif.. Joseph worked for 33 years with Pacific Bell before retiring. In 1997 he married Betty Jane Wendtland, whom predeceased him in August 2004.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2026, American Legion Post 259, the Melody Dance Club and the Telephone Pioneers.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Hansen of Idaho; brother, Joe Bellinger of Sacramento; stepson Mark Bellinger and sister Ruth Shokal of Idaho and nephew Ned Bellinger.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 9, 2005 at 10 AM at the Paradise Cemetery. Paradise Chapel of the Pines is in charge of arrangements.
