MARGARET BROWN A memorial service for Margaret Ann Neitz-Brown, of Oroville, CA will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in Oroville, 45 Acacia Avenue, at 11 a.m. Margaret passed away on February 2, 2014. Her passing is a loss to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, John. She was born on September 24, 1938, in Wages Creek, CA on the Mendocino Coast. She was raised by her parents, Lewis and Emma Neitz, in Fort Bragg and Willits, CA, with her older sister, Audrey. She was married to John Alton Brown, her high school sweetheart, for 58 years. They lived in Eureka, CA then moved to Oroville in 1970, where they raised five children. She graduated from Willits High School as her class valedictorian within her first year of marriage. She graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Chico, in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She retired from Butte County Public Health in 2007 after working for 20 years. She had previously worked for Avon as a sales representative. She was a lifelong active member of First United Methodist Church of Oroville, serving on several committees and contributing to their monthly newsletter. Margaret was a member of International Order of Jobs Daughters in her youth. She was also active in Camp Fire Girls with her daughters. Margaret is survived by her five children, Nancy (Albert) Brown-Comacho, Mike (Rosetta) Brown, Rachel (William) Ford, Gail (Troy) Leonard, and Alex (Angela) Brown, thirteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. She was known as her family photographer, always taking the photos and never posing for them. Margaret was an accomplished seamstress. She was a great listener and always had words of wisdom to share. She had a love of language and was a talented writer. Margaret was a beloved mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, and was a wonderful cook and made the best cookie bars around. Arrangements are under the direction of Affordable Mortuary.
