R. Dwight Hill Obituary
R. DWIGHT HILL Reuben Dwight Hill, 78, died on his 78th birthday, April 10, 2014 at his home in Chico, California with his loving wife of nearly 50 years and two children beside him. Dwight died of an inoperable brain tumor. Dwight ("Papa" to his grandkids) was born April 10, 1936 in Portland, Oregon and was the child of Dwight and Ruth Hill Sr. Dwight was raised in Seattle, Hong Kong, and San Rafael, and various other cities. He recalls stores of living in Hong Kong during WWII and his father being a prisoner of war. In 1954, Dwight joined the Marines, and served in Korea after that war. In 1959, he graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in psychology. Soon after graduating, he began working with the Christian organization, the Navigators. Dwight's life-long passion was to help men to grow in their relationship with Christ. He helped men to develop the disciplines of spending time regularly reading and memorizing Scripture, serving others, growing in their marriages, and sharing their faith with others. In fact, until his death he was leading Bible studies and mentoring men of all ages around the world. Over the course of fifty years, Dwight & Ruth have had ministries in Blacksburg, VA, Las Cruces, NM, Davis, San Diego, Chico, Sacramento CA, Manila, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. His life work of mentoring others has left a legacy to thousands of people around the world. Dwight is survived by his wife, Ruth Hill, his daughter Julie Jones and son-in-law Darrin Jones, his son Wes Hill, and daughter-in-law Jeanna Hill, his grandchildren Sawyer and McKenna Jones of Concord, CA, and Hayden Hill, Landon Hill and Audrey Hill of Chico, CA and his brothers Alec, Grant and and Cyril Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dwight Hill Memorial Fund through the North Valley Community Foundation at 3120 Cohasset, Suite 8, Chico, CA 95973. Dwight's family will then distribute the donations to Dwight's favorite charities. A celebration of life service will be held at Neighborhood Church of Chico, 2801 Notre Dame Blvd, on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. To view obituary and send condolences online go to NewtonBracewell.com.
