He served in the U.S. Army 1954-56. Via the G.I. Bill, Gerald attended Fresno State, El Camino College, and Chico State, graduating in 1962 with an accounting degree. Gerald met his wife, Susan (MacCool), at Chico State. They were married in 1961 and had three children. Gerald was an IRS agent from 1962 until retiring in 1990. A longtime IRS instructor, he developed and taught the first personal income tax courses at Butte College. An ardent golfer, Gerald also enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, and ballroom dancing. He was a longtime board member of Chico Friends of the Library. Gerald took quiet pride in his grandmother, Alice Brown Davis, the only woman chieftan of an American Indian tribe (Seminole) and one of two women placed in the Indian Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Susan; children Jennifer Davis-Kay (Woody) of Arlington, MA, Michael (Christine) of Minneapolis, MN, and Matthew (Paula) of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren Melanie and Will Davis-Kay and Walker Davis; sister Diane Huffman of Mission Viejo, CA; and sister-in-law Valerie Davis of Oceanside, CA.
