Jack Richard "Captain Jack" Schllitigus Obituary
JACK "CAPTAIN JACK" RICHARD SCHLITGUS Jack Schlitgus, a resident of Sparks, NV since 2010, died July 7, 2014 at the age of 91. Jack was born on December 5, 1922 to Arthur and Laura Schlitgus in Rochester, MN. He graduated from Westport High School, Kansas City, MO in 1940. Jack met and eventually married Evelyn Williams on April 13, 1941. In November 1942, Jack joined the Merchant Marines and attended the Merchant Marine Training Academy on Hoffman Island, NY. After graduating, he worked in New York Harbor and later became an Able Bodied Seaman on Liberty Ships making numerous voyages to Europe, North Africa and the Mediterranean during World War II. He was discharged from The Merchant Marines in March 1946 and returned to Kansas City, MO. In August 1953, Jack and Evelyn moved to Long Beach, CA where he worked as a pie salesman and eventually was hired by Frito Lay. Over the years with Frito Lay, Jack received many promotions up to a Regional Sales Manager and retired in 1984. In 1987, Jack and Evelyn moved to Paradise, CA. For many years, he enjoyed playing Bingo at the Gold Country Casino in Oroville, CA. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife Evelyn in 2002, after 61 years of marriage and his only child Jacquelynne Watkins in 2005. Jacks survivors include his wife Marjy Schlitgus (married in 2009); step-son David Schmitt of Sparks, NV; step-daughter Dianne Mills of Peachtree City, GA; twin step-granddaughters Christy Tidwell of LaGrange, GA and Cindy Robichaux of Peachtree City, GA; five step-great-grandchildren, Christopher, Megan and Carson Robichaux of Peachtree City, GA and Joshua and Chelsea Tidwell of LaGrange, GA. No public services will be held. Jack will be cremated and inurned next to his wife Evelyn at the Skyway Memorial park, Magnolia, CA.
