MICHAEL A. SEARING, SR. 10/1/1948-7/28/14 Born to Bessie and Orville Searing in Chico, Mike was the oldest of 4 kids. He attended local schools. Until the 5th grade he never lost a foot race. After graduating from Chico High, he went to Yuba College for two years before entering the Navy. He served on the USS Hepburn and USS Truxton. He married his long time friend Claire Richard. He was the proud dad of three kids. After the Navy he attended Butte College and Chico State. Where he said he'd always be a senior. He worked for Helen's Donuts for 18 yrs., where he met many friends! He always loved his sports especially bowling, archery, pool and softball. That's where he earned his nickname "HAMMER". Later he worked for Leete Homes and started his lawn business. In these years he began his love for art. He won fair awards, sold and gave away his drawings to people who appreciated his abstract work. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, poker and having a cold one with a friend. Everyone knew him by his old Ford pickups and his endless stories. He is survived by his kids Michelle Herbert (Sean), Michael Jr. and Mark Searing, mother Bessie Searing, siblings Donna McDonald (Steve), Dave( Dianne) and Steve Searing, and his three grandkids Annie Herbert, Avery Herbert and Alex Searing. His memorial service will be held August 8th at 10 am at Brusie Funeral Home.
