MARJORIE ELIZABETH (MCDONALD) FREDENBURG With deep sorrow, yet with much gratitude for her life, the Fredenburg family announces the death of Marjorie Elizabeth (McDonald) Fredenburg, born December 18, 1920 in Pinckney, Lewis County on the Tug Hill Plateau of New York. She grew up in Fulton, New York, and after graduation from High School attended Houghton College where she met her future husband, Robert. After living many years in Adams, New York, she moved to Chico, California in 1959 with her husband, Robert and 5 children when he accepted a professorship at then Chico State College. In Chico, Marjorie was able to return to school, completing a teaching credential. She died August 19, 2014 with her family at her side after a short illness. Marjorie was active in the League of Women Voters, receiving the Mita Markland Award for outstanding service to the League, in the local Alzheimer's Association, serving as president, and the Community Congregational Church of Chico. She loved to read and garden, but her greatest joy was her family and home. She was never happier than when she was baking chocolate chip cookies with her grand and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her 5 children, Marion (Steve) Linden, John (Beth) Fredenburg, James (Emily) Fredenburg, Ted (Terri) Fredenburg and Robert (Pam) Fredenburg; 9 grandchildren, Rachelle, Robert, Peter, John, Catherine, Lynn, Kevin, Donald, Julia; and 3 great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, and Gianna. Services will take place on September 13, 2014 at the First Christian Church of Chico, 295 East Washington Street, Chico, California at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Natural Science Scholarship Fund, California State University, Chico, in care of Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home.
