MURIEL JEANNETTE TURNER

Muriel passed away quietly at home in Chico on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the age of 99.

She resided in Chico, CA. for 62 years. Born Muriel Jeannette Wirth on August 20, 1911 in Oroville, CA. to Arthur and Charlotte Wirth. She attended various colleges in Sacramento, Chico and Berkeley and obtained her Master's degree in Home Economics from Oregon State University. She was a school teacher in several California locations. In addition, she also worked for the University of California Davis Agricultural Extension Service as Home Advisor of Glenn County. She earned a full professorship while in their employ. She was a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

She was an avid reader. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and wrote several recipe booklets while working as Glenn County Home Advisor. She also loved to garden and raised beautiful roses. She was a source of love, wisdom, humor, insight and creativity for all who came to her for counsel and advice. She was generous with her resources. She attended church and ladies prayer group faithfully and her steadfast faith was always an inspiration to those who knew her.

Muriel is survived by her three children, Charlotte (Hans) Trebe of Wietzendorf, Germany, Janice (Roger) Houtsma of Cumming, Georgia, and David M. (Cathy) Turner of Chico, CA; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Elsa Collins of Merced, CA; three step grandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She was loved and adored by all her family and she will be sorely missed.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ted M. Turner, who passed away on October 2, 1975. She is also predeceased by her sister, Lucia Roberts, and brother, George Wirth.

A Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2011 at the funeral home. Service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., with reception immediately following at Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home, 680 Camellia Way, Chico, CA.

Memorial donations in her memory can be made to World Outreach in care of the funeral home. Interment will be on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Blvd., Oroville, California 95966.
