Edward Thayer Obituary

EDWARD THAYER SR.

A Celebration of Edward Thayer's Life will take place at noon, Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Casa de Flores Community Center in Chico, located at 701 E. Lassen Ave. Ed lost his battle with cancer Saturday, July 2, 2011, with his sons at his side. He was 75.

Ed is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth; father, Sylvester; brothers, Andy and Bob, as well as sister, Pat. Ed is survived by two loving sons, Ed and Randy; his current love of 15 years, Beverly Hartman; ex-wife, Janet Halstead; brothers, Dick, Mike, Jerry and Dan, as well as sisters, Elizabeth and Arlene. Ed took great pride in all eight of his grandchildren.

Ed was an unwavering family man, always dedicated to the happiness and wellbeing of those around him. Ed had a love for music, and peacefully slipped away from us while listening to Roy Orbison's "Crying over you". Ed was always armed with a quick wit and an easy laugh. Ed could talk to anyone and never missed the chance to chat with the person next to him.

Many will remember Ed as the original patent holder for the first granola bars sold in the US. Ed took part in several health food related ventures through the years. Ed served in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany.

Per Ed's wishes, his memorial will be a happy, informal affair, where everyone will be free to laugh and cry, listening to accounts of his life, as well as sharing Ed'isms we all cherish. Family and friends are invited to attend.

The Neptune Society is coordinating Ed's final arrangements.

Ed brings back good memories for me.My family were close friends with Ed and his family from mid 60's to mid 70's . My Father was Kelly Finney and Mother Viola Finney. AT times Ed would work with my dad putting up Metal buildings and building Launch and load boat loaders. ED and his family were close friends for many years while we lived in chico. I was very lucky to know Ed., he always was coming up with great new ideas like his granola bars. I Have made several trips back to Chico, but I was not able to locate Ed and his family. My Dad passed away several years ago but Viola and I still talk about the memories with Ed and his family. My condolences for family and friends of Ed.
