Obituary Condolences

EVELYNE WILLINGHAM Evelyne Elizabeth Alden Willingham, a longtime resident of Chico, CA, passed away January 13, 2013, at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, CA. She was born in Alturas, CA, lived briefly in Oroville, and attended grade school and high school in Weaverville, CA. Afterwards, she attended Shasta College in Redding, and then the University of California, Chico, where she was awarded a Bachelors degree after four years of study. She was on the Dean's List and Honor Roll with a 4.0 GPA. She became acquainted with many lifelong, wonderful friends, one of whom was Sylvester Willingham. No wonder Sylvester was attracted to her. She had blonde hair, blue eyes and was exceedingly attractive from head to foot. And very smart too! They liked each other so much that they decided to marry. The wedding celebration was so long that they had to proceed with haste from their wedding site to catch a plane in Sacramento for the first leg of a honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean. No time to change clothing from tuxedo and wedding gown, so they had to board the aircraft in wedding attire, much to the delight of passengers and crew! They were given a bottle of champagne and special seating for the flight to Florida. Upon their return to Chico, they purchased a pistachio ranch nearby, where they resided for 24 years. They named it "Oasis Ranch" and planted many palm trees so as to confirm that their ranch WAS an oasis. Evelyne loved dogs of any breed, mix, or color, but it seemed that most were small and cute. She loved them and they loved her! She left behind Bruiser, Jeter, Geronimo, and many other canine friends, long gone. She and Sylvester had buried their previous pets under that stately, old oak tree situated in the center of their ranch. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, and always had a deep passion for the care of her garden. She was especially knowledgeable regarding landscaping plants. She was an excellent photographer, and her computer skills were superior. Of interest, she was a descendant of John Alden and Pricilla Mullins, Pilgrims of the Mayflower and also the Daniel Boone family. She is survived by her husband, Sylvester Willingham of Chico; parents, Rhodley Lewington Alden and Betty Jo Alden of Redding; sister, Adrianne Werren of Eureka; brother, Gregory Alden of Igo; and sister, Vivienne Davis of Susanville. A memorial service for Evelyne will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home. After the service, all are welcome to attend a time of fellowship out at the Oasis Ranch, 620 Oasis Dr., Chico, CA 95973. You may share your thoughts and memories online at
