DUANE HELGESON A genius for all things mechanical, and a good friend of many, Duane Helegson passed away on Dec. 8, 2013, in Sacramento. He was born June 18, 1935, to Walter and Ilsa Helgeson in Montevideo, Minnesota and grew up in Richland, Washington. Helgeson was a Korean-era vet and after entering the U.S. Air Force as a flight mechanic, he followed his passion for mechanics. He was a member of the American Lancia Club and the Sons of Norway. He loved cars and served as chief judge for the Chico Concours D'Elegance for many years. Everyone knew him as a mechanical genius, someone who could take anything mechanical and figure it out. Helgeson leaves behind one son, Terry Helgeson; four grand-children; and 3 sisters. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Uff Da. He was preceded in death by daughters Christina and Linnette. Duane is somewhere where nuts never rust to bolts, where everything torques down the first time, where blown fuses are the only electrical problem and knuckles never get barked. We should all be so loved when our time comes. An appreciation of his life will take place in Chico on Jan. 5 at 4 p.m. For questions, call 530-342-3798.
