Dolas Hensley Obituary
DOLAS HENSLEY His family, friends, and citizens of Chico have lost a very special person. After a courageous two year battle with cancer Dolas Hensley succumbed to the disease on June 17, 2014. From his humble but happy beginnings on a peach farm in Yuba City he served his country by enlisting in the US Army and quickly moved from Private 2nd class to Sergeant in just two years. Upon discharge he began his impressive 40 year career with Bank of America, all in Northern California. Along the way Dolas found time not just to further his career but to become a devoted husband and father to his three children and to give back to his community. He was former president of the Chico Chamber of Commerce, was a active member Chico Rotary Club, was a member of the Enloe Systems Foundation, worked with the United Way of Butte County, the CSUC Foundation, the American Cancer Society and was a board member of the Salvation Army, and Butte Creek Country Club. While he gave his heart and time to these community organizations, his passion was golf where he flirted with becoming a scratch golfer even in his senior years. Dolas was preceded in death by his first wife Dale Higgens and his two sons Daryl and Darren. He is survived by his daughter Denise Slocumb (Matt), grandchildren Krystle Hector, Bret Hensley, Amy Hensley, great granddaughter Hallie, his brother Don Hensley , sisters Lena Brown and Jan Baker, and his wife Kay Hensley . Dolas and Kay met and married in 1995 and spent 20 wonderful years traveling, gardening, and golfing. Check out the word "gentleman " in your dictionary and you just might see an illustration of Dolas Hensley. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in the Chapel of the Brusie Funeral Home in Chico. In lieu of flowers donations will be gratefully received by Enloe Hospice, Bidwell Presbyterian Church, or the Salvation Army . Condolences can be made online @ www.BrusieFH.com
