Jack McCoy(1923-2012)

Jack McCoy, 88, of Fanning Springs died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at Avalon Nursing Home in Lake City.
He was born in Pikeville, Ky. Dec. 21, 1923 to the late Helix and Miranda McCoy. He grew up in Toler, Ky. and graduated from Belfry High School.
He served in the U.S. Army from June 17, 1943-Jan. 15, 1946. He was a Veteran of World War II. He was a sergeant, 249th Engineer Combat Battalion, Company B. He served in the European Theater, was awarded four Bronze Service Stars, served in The Battle of the Bulge and Rhine Crossing.
He was a heavy truck driver, mechanic and all types of construction including bridges and displaced persons' housing.
He worked for Little General Food Stores for 19 years in St. Petersburg, where he retired as the Sun Coast District Manager in 1977.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include sons, James M. McCoy and Jack Fleming McCoy; grandchildren, Tim, Todd, Sarah, Molly McCoy; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Shelby, Sade', Hanna, Steven, Alyson and Michelle; sisters, Virginia Pinson, Ortha Mae Burton, Elmo Allred and his brothers, Ernest and Clarence McCoy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Virginia Dunn McCoy and sisters, Bertha Cain, Maggie Sammons and Hazel Hylton.
A private interment was held Sept. 21 at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg.
