Robert Bruce Rankin(1925-2012)

Robert Bruce Rankin, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at North Florida Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 13, 1925 in LaClede, Mo. to Roscoe and Marie Rankin. He moved to Bell in 1976 from Ft. Lauderdale.
He was in the U.S. Army. He served in World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 years and he was the former Postmaster at the O'Brien Post Office prior to his retirement in 1987.
He was a Presbyterian, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ft. Lauderdale and he attended Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Bell.
He enjoyed traveling and being on the water.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marsha Dee Rankin of Bell, daughter, Linda Walker of Bell, two sons, Dr. Bruce (Jeannette) Rankin of DeLand and Rob (Natalie) Rankin of Bell; his sister, Frances Swanson of Moline, Ill., 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Rankin and Marie Rankin and a brother, William Rankin.
Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Corbin officiating.
Graveside Masonic Rites and Military Honors followed at Townsend Cemetery.
