Marilee was born Nov. 5, 1938 in Brooksville to Hillard and Jesse Mae (Patillo) Allen. One of eight children, Marilee was raised in Hernando and Marion counties, graduating from Dunnellon High School. She lived in Florida her entire life raising her three children in Jacksonville before moving to Chiefland in 1986. In Jacksonville, she worked for the Swindle Powell Furniture Company for almost 20 years. After moving to Chiefland, she worked at Beauchamp Hardware and lumberyard.
Marilee was a gifted athlete and fierce competitor throughout her life. In her younger years, she was a talented basketball player. For her 65th birthday, she had a small basketball court built in her backyard where she enjoyed challenging her children and grandchildren to games of Horse. She took great pride in being undefeated in these contests.
In her mid-30s, she took up the game of golf with great success, winning many tournaments and championships. She won club championships at Pine Lakes Golf Club in Jacksonville, Fort George Country Club in Mayport and Chiefland Golf and Country Club. At Chiefland, she won the club championship 13 times and was looking forward to competing for a 14th this year. Marilee had five holes in one, three of them on the 13th hole at Chiefland.
She is survived by her sisters, Myrna Sheffield and Sharon Fronk; her children, Donna (ED) Kirkland, Kevin Breslend and Timothy (Patty) Breslend, as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her best friend and travel companion, Al Powers.
