Caretha Buie Nelson, 88, of Chiefland, passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville.
A lifelong resident of Levy County, she was born March 23, 1930 to Eddie and Albirtha Buie of Chiefland.
Mrs. Nelson was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she was very active until she became ill. She was a former teacher of both Chiefland Junior High and Chiefland Elementary where she taught many children from the Levy County area. After retirement, she worked several years with people who had developmental disorders (LARC) in Otter Creek. She also managed Chiefland Child Daycare Center for several years.
Mrs. Nelson enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 plus years, Edward A. Nelson, Jr. and a grandson, Michael Mitchell Jr.
She is survived by daughters, Joan Nelson Hood and Belinda Nelson Chapman of Atlanta, Ga. and a son, Edward A. Nelson III of Tallahassee; four grandchildren, Kenya (Travis) Nelson Warren, Edward A. Nelson IV, Clarence E. Hood and Kennedy Nelson and four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Lynsy, Lyndyn and Mariah.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Chiefland.
